Don't be surprised to find this tiny place with a line of customers stretching around the corner. It's that popular, as much for its low, low prices as for the food, which is as good as anywhere in Calabash. The original owners, Terry and Mike Frink, opened Capt. John's in 1976 and continue their tradition of providing good food to locals as well as to visitors. The restaurant is located on the waterfront with a large room that juts out over the water, putting you in the middle of the scenic views. The fried seafood platters are cooked in vegetable oil. You will find steamed and sauteed seafood, steaks, surf & turf and even lobster tail when available. There are kids' and senior citizen's menus, and cocktails, beer and wine are served.

Seafood! You'll find everything from oyster stew and teriyaki shrimp to stuffed flounder in hollandaise and soft-shell crabs. But if your taste buds are set for hamburger, chicken or steak, you can indulge them here as well. Coleman's is open every day except Wednesday for lunch and dinner year round, so take yourself down to the foot of River Road. There you will find other restaurants, but Coleman's is the one with its name up in lights.

Established in 1955, the Dockside has a long-standing reputation. The expansive dining room is surrounded by glass and overlooks the Calabash River, where you can view boats and wildlife as you enjoy your meal. The menu includes seafood platters and combination seafood platters as well as steak, chicken, salmon, catfish, mahi-mahi and more. The soups are homemade, and dinner salads are available. In addition, you will find a children's menu and a senior's menu. The lounge area is separate from the dining room and you can enjoy a drink there as you watch your favorite sports on the television.

At the Grapevine, the motto is "A loaf of bread, a jug of wine and us together." True, there are more than 30 wines from which to choose and the bread is delicious, but the Grapevine is so much more. You will find yourself in a comfortable old world atmosphere with a menu to match. For example, you may choose Seafood Prosciutto Pasta, Mediterranean Pasta or Mediterranean Grouper. Maude's Country Delights is named for a very special mule — but don't let that stop you from visiting. The mule was a part of the family at Indigo Farms for 40 years, and the delights to be found in the bakery are made from fresh fruits grown on the farm. You can have a light lunch there to soothe your conscience before indulging in sweets like apple, blueberry and blackberry pies, peach pound cake, apple taffy pie, eclairs, strawberry shortcake, fruit slushies and milkshakes, homemade bread, ice cream and more.
